Medal of Honor Awarded to Navy Seal

Monday, October, 22nd, 2007

Lt. Murphy was part of the Navy Seals and was killed back in 2005 in Afghanistan. Now in 2007 Lt. Murphy's parents will receive the Medal of Honor for their fallen son.=

In 2005 Murphy led his four man Seal team into a region that had many 10,000 foot mountains. They were searching for a terrorist but they were soon spotted and 40 insurgents started to fire on their position. The attack was well launched by the Taliban and soon after the fighting began all four of the men were injured. Murphy exposed himself to enemy fire as to keep his team together and still able to fight. The mountains were blocking any communications. Murphy moved into the open as to communicate to get reinforcements. At one point during the communications Murphy was hit in the back with a bullet and dropped the receiver but picked it back up and finished his communications. At the end of the communications he said thank you.

The day turned out to be the worst day for the Navy Seals since World War 2. Only one man survived the attack from the insurgents.

They will soon receive the Medal of Honor from President George Bush. His parents say he was "Very protective for other people and always looked out for the underdog." His dad also said, "Here is a man who had been shot in the stomach, and been fighting with this wound, gets shot in the back..... and then still has the presence of mind to say thank you. Michael was the politest guy in the world.

I think people like these are true heroes and do deserve awards. Even though Lt. Murphy is not around to receive his award I am sure that his family, friends, and the sole surviving Seal are very proud of his actions. Reading stories like these make me understand more about how people will do anything to protect their fellow man. I think people should all stick up for themselves and other people and they will be rewarded.

Lt. Murphy is a great hero to many people. I think to lead a group of trained naval seals into enemy territory takes a lot of courage. I couldn’t imagine the feelings that the men went through knowing the enemy had spotted then as well the fact that they couldn’t get re-enforcements to help rescue them. All those men that went on that mission deserve to be recognized by all because they had but there life in danger everyday and because of there on fortunate location in the mountains they couldn’t receive help.

I think the bravery that Lt. Murphy showed was incredible! The only thing that sucks is that he was awarded the medal of honor after he died.

This is another story of a brave soldier who sacrificed himself to protect his teammate. I agree that the soldier should be awarded Medal of Honor. To be honest, he is very lucky to be awarded. Throughout history, there have been tremendous of brave soliders who sacrificed themselves for victory, somehow they are not known or awarded by the public. These soldiers may be those who once fought to protect our homeland. May them rest in glory and peace.

It's great to see that their are still people out their willing to give up their own lives in order to help a fallen team member. This definilty shows great courage and bravery and is something most of the world would never do. I guess this is why he is being awarded the Medal of Honor, but like Nicco said, its a shame that it's to be awarded to him after he died. Having both parents being in the navy it's good to know that if something ever went wrong, there's still hope that someone would do this again.

I agree. Lt. Murphy showed tremendous amount of courage and bravery on the battle field. The fact that he had the courage to walk in to the open just so he can get connection for rescue and help shows a great deal of character and it's great to know that there are still people out there that puts others in front of them, without these people, I can't imagine what the world would turn into. His courage, and bravery inspires me, and I show alot of respect for this man, not only because he is fighting for his country, but also because he was the only one to step up in that situation to save everyone else.
