Navy: Sailor Kills Female Colleagues then Himself

Monday, October, 22nd 2007

Today in the United Arab Emirates at the American base in Bahrain, an American sailor took the lives of two women then turned the gun on himself. The man did not die from his wounds, but is in critical condition at the base's hospital.

The shootings occurred at around 5 a.m. local time. The motive for the shootings are unclear at the moment an official from the base states. The man is being held under very heavy security even though he is in a critical state at the moment.

So far we do not know the motive of why the sailor chose to do this, but I think that anyone who has the guts just to think about killing someone has a problem, and to try and take your own life after is even worse. I am sure that this man will receive a harsh penalty because he is not only representing the Marines but representing his country. People who commit acts like these should receive a long period of jail time without parole I think. When the man does go to court to face his charges I am sure that he will get a harsh penalty. If the motive is never released some people could think that this a crime against women. Until we are told of what his motive was we can only guess.

I wonder what the guy's relations were with the two women he killed, or if it was just random?

It is sad that this happened, but it is also sad that many people over there who enrolled in the navy want to come back, but are forced to serve their duty. I can see how it would be easy for the stress to build and build until one day, the only way out in the soldiers' eyes is suicide.

That said, I do not understand why he killed the two women. If he had bad relationships with them, it could very well be a reaction to the stress he was getting.

p.s. your article link is broken.

This is a very weird case and I would want to know why he would do such a thing. Although I agree that this man should not have done this given he is representing his country plus extensive mental training in the navy. I don't agree on giving a harsh or death penalty on this man until his clear motives and reasons are shown.

That man has got to own up to his own actions. I mean, he killed 2 of the other sailors, and then tries to kill himself in an act of cowardice. if you kill someone, and then kill yourself, it means that you dont want to get involved with the police, and would rather die than tell them your motive. the police has to get the motive out of him, because killing without a reason is senseless, and unfair. killing WITH a reason, is senseless, but at least you have a reason.....

This indeed is a strange story. I think that the women he killed might have been giving him a hard time. Maybe he liked those women and since hes on the navy, he gets lonely and maybe wanted to engage in sexual contact. This might be pretty reasonable for they disagreed and in the end the man had enough of it and shot them.

This is really similar to the incident that happend in Virginia Tech. All of above commenters were debating over the issue of his motive of this shooting. I think the motive was possibly caused by stress as mentioned by Geoff, or even pressure from others as the killer of Virginia Tech's motive was similar. I think main problem might have came from others around him who might have humiliated him somehow that would make him feel embrassed or even suicidal.
