Korean Leaders in Historic Talks

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Kim Jong-il the leader of North Korea and Roh Moo-Hyun the leader of South Korea met at Pyongyang in North Korea. A meeting between the leaders of these two countries has only ever happened twice before. Live television showed them shaking hands. Moo-Hyun will remain in North Korea for three days for the peace and economic talks. The summit is to try and create a permanent truce between the two countries.
President Roh left Seoul in a motorcade and was dropped off just before the boarder where they was no military on either side. The president and his wife then got off and walked across the boarder. This is the first time a President from North Korea has ever done this. The president did this because he is trying to encourage people from both countries to try and "follow suit" Roh stated. When he arrived he was greeted by Kim Jong-il and crowds of people waving paper flowers.
I think that the meeting between these two leaders is an extremely good thing because North Korea and South Korea have always been having problems with each other and North Korea has been having problems with other countries as well. Also if these talks are successful maybe Jong-il will realise what the people are going through in his country and try to give more money back to the country. Also if these talks are successful it was make peace between the two nations which have been on a standoff since the Korean War.

As citizen of Korea, I am really interest in this article. This is second meeting after Korean War.(First meeting was 2002,I think)After war, they were sperated as North(Authorian), and South(Democradic). I hope no war, and peace should be kept.I am also hopig our two countries became one as soon.
